An Example of Super Service!...

About 3 or 4 nights a week I go to the Shell service station near my place. I don't know if it is a new policy by Shell or the fellow behind the counter (Raj) has adopted his own operating basis but he gives the best service I have ever experienced in retail.

He not only has memorized my buying habits but he said he has over 500 regular customers that who he also has memorized their buying habits.

Probably every second time I go there I forget something I need, whether it be bread, milk, a 10 litre box of spring water and various other things I buy regularly, but when I get to the counter Raj will always ask me if I needed any of these items I usually get but did not bring to the counter.

He probably has saved me 3 or 4 unnecessary trips back to the service station in the last month but more crucially from Shell's perspective he has saved me from going elsewhere to purchase these items I forget.

Overall, by operating like this, Shell would be making far more money each year, no doubt about it. Another thing that this type of caring service creates is a stronger bond between the customer and staff member. You have a natural inclination to take interest in the person serving you because that person takes interest in you. I find I want to go to get my usual supplies there but also to see Raj, too.

This has to be the new type of customer service for any business that wants to thrive in 2016 and beyond, because if you are not operating like this and your competitors are, you are going to lose customers.
